Q is a young man from Yorkshire who moves to London and finally gathers the courage to embark on his first gay, erotic experience with another man.

The meeting itself is sensual and fulfils his every fantasy. His smell, his taste, the kissing, his lips; it is intense and better than anything he'd expected.
When it is over, Q's world collapses. What happens next, isn't what Q had imagined. When he flees from the experience, he is overcome with shame, disgust and a realization that he may have made the biggest mistake of his life.
Q is a very short story by author Fox Emerson that explores the very tough decisions a young person can make when confronted by desires and what happens when you act on them.
Will Q survive the emotional rollercoaster and come out to his family and his friends? Or will he take the easy way out?
This could turn out to be a life-changing decision. It might also turn out to be his last.

While this is a short story, it has a powerful message and contains homosexual relations.
This is part 1 of 2 books.

A Boy Called Q A Secret Life of Torment edition by Fox Emerson Literature Fiction eBooks

This is a very powerful short story. My experiences with short stories is that they are the most perfect and the strongest form of writing. So much must be explained, described, thought through, and in so very few words. What to put in, what to leave out, what word(s) to use to encompass so much to the reader. I want Q to live. I want him to fight for himself and others that need a strong voice that can only come from the experience of a failed suicide. We live in a time that has informed more people about the pain gays suffer. We have become much more tolerant of all people's differences and yet we still have some young people unable to release themselves from the chains of our religions, our environment, and our families. I see this story from the eyes of Jackie. I feel her very deep pain. I understand Q and his weaknesses. Thanks to this well told tale by an author that understands his subjects and his readers. I guess I just found another author I will be following.

A Boy Called Q A Secret Life of Torment edition by Fox Emerson Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

The intensity of this story has my head still reeling. I can't believe how many thoughts are running through my mind. This story goes beyond LGBT. I also loved Jackie. Maybe you could write " a mother called Jackie" about parents/ survivors of suicide. God Bless you Mr Emerson.
A sobering and eye opening story that will leave you feeling like you know the main character and can feel his hurt, desires and needs.
Great story. Didn't expect to be so moved. Impressively written to elicit such emotion. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
Very important story and told with lots of depth for such a short read. I cried at the end because I have been there. I was Q.
Banger!!! Great story!!!! I really enjoyed the storyline. I was on a emotional rollercoaster reading this. I'm upset about the ending, I would recommend this story for any book club.
Quebec is an unusual person name, but so are millions of other words. Q is also not a common nickname, but this Q has very common issues associated with Q words. Quite often as people pass thru the teens and twenties age the development of wisdom, experience, and future vision skills are also developing at a different rate. Quixotic decisions made affect the remaining life of the person, but most are made in moments of high emotion and low thought that seem different when looked back on a a later time. Quotable phrases are passed down through history expressing the emotion of the moment, but often not the desired results. Quirks of life can cloud the vision, making our character experience a complete mental and emotional turn around while wishing for a "do over" to change the outcome. Quivering and regressing inward to avoid the past often leads to substitution means that are no better, and frequently deadly. Q is an eye and heart opening story that will not solve the queer issue or the social morass that kills our kids with attitude and hate for the wrong reason.
This popped up on my 'recommended' list. I read the blurb and decided to read it. I did not understand all of the blurb until I re-read it after reading the short story. It was only then that the blurb made complete sense to me.

The writing is good in this story of Q (Quebec), a man who decides to finally act on his feelings and desires for another man. He is lucky in that he connects with a man who seems quite lovely and caring. But almost immediately the feel of the book shifts. I imagine this is what it felt like in Q's mind and heart as well. The reality of what he has done crashes over him and he is overcome with shame and guilt. My heart was aching for Q; I wanted to hug him and tell him it was okay. Q had no one to do that for him.

In an effort to not spoil the rest of the story, I won't say much more about this book. I do think that there will be more books about Q, if I read the 'end material' correctly. I'd look forward to reading more about Q because this book was so short I didn't get a good sense of what makes Q think the way he does about being gay.
