This is a short story about a young Amish man dealing with the reality of violence and lies. It can be read in ten minutes. Please don't purchase this expecting a novel for your dollar.
This story takes place in New Pennsylvania (the setting of Michael Bunker's Pennsylvania novel) shortly after the founding of the Amish Zone in NP. It is not necessary to have read the Pennsylvania Omnibus to understand and enjoy this story. It is a stand-alone short story focusing more attention on the first Amish settlers in New Pennsylvania, and their relationship with the indigenous people there.
Again, this is a very short story. Please don't buy it if you don't like short stories, or think that .99 is too much to pay for one. If I could charge less, I would. It was written for my fantastic reader friends who love the Pennsylvania world and who wanted and asked for more depth on certain topics. I hope to write and publish more of these short stories, and there is a full Pennsylvania short story anthology, with stories written by some of the biggest names in the Indie publishing world, that is scheduled for release this fall.

The only reason this is 4 stars is because I am unfairly punishing Michael for the length. I WANT MORE!! Michael Bunker writes some of the most sensory prose I've read in many years. Sure there are a million authors out the there that can be descriptive, but Michael writes words you can practically smell, touch, and feel. The story in the end is a very brief recounting of how an Amish boy and his father have a wagon misshap while travelling unprotected along the road. The father has refused to pay the englischers for protection from "the wild ones." Unable to fix the wagon the boy and his father are screwed until a band of of wild ones appear and.........I guess you need go check the sofa for 99 cents.

THE WILD ONES A Pennsylvania Short Story edition by Michael Bunker Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
This is a quickly read short story that takes you deeper into Michael Bunker's world of Pennsylvania. The nice thing is that he wrote it in such as way that this story can stand on its own. And I think that if you are not yet familiar with Pennsylvania, this short story will give you a good overview of Michael Bunker's style. If I hadn't read Pennsylvania already, this story would probably intrigue me enough to go read the omnibus.
Even though you can read this in less than 10 minutes, The Wild Ones is another great story that you can read before or after you read Pennsylvania. If you haven't read Pennsylvania then this will make you want to read it. If you have read Pennsylvania then this will make you miss the world and make you want to jump in it again. I highly recommend this.
"The Wild Ones" fills in some background for fans of Pennsylvania but is also a great stand-alone piece. I can't say much without potentially spoiling the story, but this tale is short and sweet and an excellent example of the poignancy achievable by the short story form. Fans of both Pennsylvania and short prose will miss something special if they miss this story.
I really enjoyed the twist of the Amish people choosing to live, basically in captivity in the story in order to maintain their simple life style. The world had become a very violent place and the outsider realized that without the simple Amish life society would not survive. I have enjoyed every book that I have read by this author and highly recommend the story.
Michael Bunker has added this short story to the canon of his tale, Pennsylvania. It offers some new details into the history of New Pennsylvania as well as introducing the backstory of the people that include the fan-favorite Eaguls, from the novel.
The story gives us more detail while also expanding the mystery of Pennsylvania. It is written in a different style and voice than the novel and really shows the depth of the stories that can be told in this world.
This short story by Michael Bunker snuck up on me. And then to find out that the uber talented Kevin G. Summers designed the cover made me want to read this book the minute I found out about it. I've read every word of the Pennsylvania series (loved it), and this short story was a really nice addition to fill in a little background on Eeguls', an interesting character created by Michael Bunker. I look forward to more of these Amish SciFi short stories.
Michael Bunker's Pennsylvania masterpiece was a great piece of fiction, but there were certainly more than a few questions that fans, including this one, had after finishing. One of those questions came from the natives to New Pennsylvania -- the group Bunker calls The Wild Ones. Who are they? Where did they come from?
While Bunker's short story doesn't explicitly answer all those questions, we certainly have a lot more insight into this group and their motivations. This is a good short story that gets in, tells the story, and gets out. Well done -- looking forward to more of these!
